However, this is a historical treatment, not the place to learn the theory. Ikonnikov, is a replication of a book originally published before 1904. The movie did not and could not do justice to the book. Grossman was one of the founders of the famous New York Photo League and a notoriously demanding and capricious teacher who always challenged his students. There are even pages at the back with questions (and lines for answering them or writing other notes) about structure. It's still hard, but it's nice to know I can read words of encouragement when I'm feeling blue.
